OP-05 vs OP-06: tracked booster-box price and PSA data
Research and data: OP Box Index · Published · Updated · Data sources & methodology
OP-05 Awakening of the New Era (released 2023-12-08) and OP-06 Wings of the Captain (released 2024-03-15) have different entry prices, sale samples and chase-card distributions. This comparison records those differences without turning one dated snapshot into a buying verdict.
OP-05 Awakening of the New Era
- Earlier release gives it a longer secondary-market history than OP-06.
- Chase-card strength is concentrated around multiple Luffy alternate-art and special-art pulls plus a 1st Anniversary print.
- Being an earlier set, verified sold history tends to run deeper, which makes price signals more reliable.
OP-06 Wings of the Captain
- Newer set with a shorter post-release history, so price trends can still be more volatile.
- Its headline chase card is a Treasure Rare Nami alongside strong Zoro alternate-art and SEC pulls.
- Its smaller recorded PSA population may reflect less time in market, submission demand or both; it is not an opening count.
Side by side: the actual numbers
Here is what our tracking data says, rather than general impressions. Box prices are median completed eBay sales in USD; the listing column is the cheapest verified active listing including shipping.
| Metric | OP-05 Awakening of the New Era | OP-06 Wings of the Captain |
|---|---|---|
| Release | 2023-12-08 | 2024-03-15 |
| Japanese box — sold median | $174 (12 sales) | — |
| Japanese box — lowest listing | $149.98 | $145 |
| English box — sold median | $1,035 (24 sales) | $370 (21 sales) |
| English box — lowest listing | $950 | $381.05 |
| PSA population | 77,969 | 37,347 |
| PSA gem rate | 88.4% | 93.7% |
What the dated snapshot shows
In the English sample, OP-05 is $1,035 against OP-06's $370, a 2.8× difference. The table establishes the gap, but public data does not isolate print volume, reprint timing or buyer demand as its cause.
OP-05's cheapest verified Japanese listing is $149.98 — about 14% below its $174 sold median, while OP-06's cheapest verified Japanese listing is $145. That mismatch is a reason to inspect listing condition, seller location, shipping and sale dates rather than assume either figure is automatically the current transaction price.
PSA records 77,969 OP-05 grades versus 37,347 OP-06 grades. The difference can reflect time in market, submission selection and collector demand. It does not reveal how many boxes were opened. Gem rate is also sample-specific: 88.4% for OP-05 and 93.7% for OP-06 among the recorded submissions. See the limits in our population methodology.
Sample-size caveat: OP-05's Japanese sold median rests on 12 completed sales. The English samples contain 24 and 21 sales.
How to compare them properly
- Check the completed-sale sample and the exact active listing separately; the two can differ sharply.
- Use PSA gem rate and population as grading-market context, not as proof of sealed supply.
- Recheck current data on the set pages because every number above is dated.
