OP-17 "The World's Strongest Warriors": release date, box price, and what launch data actually says

OP-17 releases Aug 22 (JP) / Aug 28 (EN), 2026

OP-17 is the One Piece Card Game's fourth-anniversary booster, themed around the Four Emperors and the new island of Elbaf. It is also a structural first: the closest thing to a global simultaneous release the game has had — a 6-day gap between the Japanese and English launches, where OP-13 waited roughly three months and OP-16 two weeks. This page collects the official facts and, more importantly, what our tracked Japanese box price data from the last three launches says about when to buy.

Should you pre-order? Here is what the last three launches did

We track Japanese sealed box prices daily. This is the actual price path around each of the last three set launches — not opinion:

SetJP launchPre-order peakRelease windowPost-launch lowNow (Jul 2026)
OP-16May 30, 2026$220 (Apr 27)$139 (Jun 1)$123 (Jun 15)$150
OP-15Feb 2026$112 (late Feb)$88 (Apr)$98
OP-14Jan 2026$63 (early Jan)$63$88

Our tracked market data (Japanese sealed boxes, USD-converted). "—" = our tracking window did not cover that phase; we show only what we measured.

The pattern: hyped sets punish pre-orders. OP-16 lost 44% from its pre-order peak ($220) to its post-release low ($123) in about seven weeks, then recovered to $150. OP-15 drifted down ~21% after launch before recovering. OP-14, which launched cheap and un-hyped, never dipped — it just climbed 40% over six months. The historically cheapest window has been 2–6 weeks after release, when launch supply floods in and hype cools. For an anniversary set like OP-17, expect aggressive pre-order pricing — the data says patience has paid.

The one honest caveat: OP-17's near-simultaneous global release is new territory. Part of the old JP-box premium came from Japanese boxes carrying cards months before the English print existed; a 6-day gap weakens that mechanic. We will be tracking OP-17's Japanese and English box prices side by side from day one — that comparison lives on our compare page and in the JP vs EN data report.

What we don't know yet (and won't guess)

Bandai has not published the full OP-17 card list or rarity breakdown. Shop blogs are already projecting chase-card prices — we don't publish projections. When real sold data exists, OP-17's chase cards get the same treatment as every set we cover: raw NM prices, verified PSA 10 sold data, and PSA population, on individual card pages.

From release week, this page becomes a full OP-17 set guide with the live box price tracker, top-10 chase table and PSA population data — the same format as our OP-16 guide.

FAQ

When does OP-17 release?

August 22, 2026 in Japan; August 28, 2026 in English, with pre-release events from August 21 (Bandai official).

How much is an OP-17 booster box?

Japanese MSRP is ¥5,760 per 24-pack box (≈ $35); English packs are $4.99 MSRP. Market prices will differ — pre-order asking prices are historically the most inflated of a set's life.

Is pre-ordering worth it?

At MSRP or close to it, fine. At hyped market prices, the last three launches say no: the cheapest window has been 2–6 weeks after release. See the table above.
